Day 5: off day

Day 5: Saturday will be an off day, but may put in a 2 miler.

I am planning to run 13 miles on Sunday, Day 6. I've revised the new Tour de Wadsworth map once again, this time to eliminate the part on Hwy 123 (Reimer Rd.).

North End Trek revised

I put in 7.15 miles, my longest run yet. I could have pushed my self a little more, but was glad to make it without hardly any "breaks". Steady running or jogging in some cases. I found myself reciting the ABC song over and over again to break the monotony. One short jog from Partridge to the start of Ledgestone was very busy with about one foot of berm to run on. So I revised the run back home to Route 94. That part is busy but well lit and much more running space. I used my cell phone to take pix at the mile markers. Some of these times were somewhat inaccurate as I guestimated on the way back. Start 4:54, Tolbert St. 5:13, WEst & High 5:28, Partridge & Great Oaks 5:42, Ledgestone/Weatherstone 5:56, Clarks Corners 6:15, West & High 6:26, End 6:48. I know, I'm not breaking any world records, but an accomplishment for me. Here is the revised map.

Day 3 : off day

Today was an off day. I am planning on getting up bright an early, possibly 4:45am to actually hit the street at 5:00. My route is longer than I originally planned, but I'm anxious to scout out the north end. Route total is 7.65 miles. Coming back on High St. should be a breeze (but not on the knees) as its all down hill. Here is the proposed route.

Day 2: Not running with the dead.

I chose not to run with the dead. Plan was to run through Woodlawn cemetery at the beginning of my run. It creeped me out and ran up Pardee St. to Balwin and over to West Ave. Then, instead of looping back, I cut down High St and then over to Prospect. It came out to 3.4 miles. Coming back down High St. was rough on the old knees, so it was slow going, but overall I would say a successful run. One of these times, I'll try running through the cemetery, but maybe in daylight.

Nothing unusual along the run, except some very hurried drivers right around 5:45 on West Ave. My guess is they were running late to work. I passed one other runner going the opposite way on High, so that was encouraging.

I've got to get myself a new digital watch. I'm using my cell phone ziplocked in a sandwich bag, which is ok, but not very efficient.

My running diary- Day 1

With one month to go to the Akron Roadrunner Marathon, I am chronicling my runs as a means to get consistent, stay inspired and find ways of improving my running in order to prepare for the half marathon. I am trying to work my runs in the mornings at 5:00. Tomorrow, 8/25, I am planning to take the route through the cemetery and up Western Ave. and back. My goal is to chronicle the events of the run, up to the day of the Marathon. Below is a map of the Tour de Wadsworth, which I inspire to run at least 4 times before the Sept. 25th.
